The son of Abundance proves unreachable in the Jockey Club Local Handicap

On Saturday February 20th, the King Abdulaziz Racecourse at Riyadh played host to the second renewal of the Saudi Cup meet highlighted by the eponymous race offering a $20 Million purse to be the richest race in the world. During this outstanding day, ALBATHALY proved once more his superiority among the local bred horses by recording a crushing win in the $1 Million Jockey Club Local Handicap over 9 furlongs. Breaking well from the gate in the middle of the dirt track, the 4yo horse travelled smoothly under Wigberto Ramos. He progressed to lead entering final furlong responding well for pressure and kept on strongly to record a 4 ½ length victory.

Owned by Prince Faisal Bin Khaled Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Albathaly remains unbeaten in four outings this season and registered, last Saturday, the sixth win of his career in eight starts. Following a winning reappearance last November, Fahad Saad’s trainee snapped up the local Gr.2 Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz Cup on January 15th over a mile. A fortnight later, he successfully handled for the first time the distance of 10 furlongs when landing by 5 lenghts The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, the most prestigious local Gr.1 in Saudi Arabia.

Albathaly is by Macho Macho out of Abundance, a daughter of Anabaa who was purchased by Haras de Gouffern’s commercial entity ITC (International Thoroughbred Consultants) et the Keeneland November Sale on behalf of Prince Badr Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Congratulations to Prince Faisal Bin Khaled Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all the connections of the horse!
