The son of Mandragore Al Maury shines in Abu Dhabi

Last March 21st, Athbah Racing homebred DERGHAM ATHBAH showed quality and tenacity to win the UAE Arabian Derby, a Prestige contest over 2200m at Abu Dhabi. Having initially settled in midfield, his jockey Richard Mullen closed rapidly as the runners prepared to enter the short straight, at which point Mujeeb sneaked through on the rail and looked the likely winner. However, Dergham Athbah was not to be denied, grabbing the lead and prize in the final 25m defeating the afore-mentioned Listed winning horse by ¾ length.

A talented horse in the making, he had finished 2nd in the Arabian Triple Crown Round 2 (Gr.3 PA) at Abu Dhabi earlier this month. A son of the great AF Albahar out of Mandragore Al Maury (Dormane), he was raised at Haras de Gouffern before being exported at 2 in England. After running twice there under the care of Philip Collington, he joined Mohamed Daggash’s yard in the UAE where he ran 4th to Mujeeb in the Listed PA Abu Dhabi Championship on December 20th 2020, his first start in Middle East. Then he broke his maiden tag by the end of January this year before taking part in the Group 3 PA race.

Congratulations on Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all the horse’s connections on this outstanding success!
